Luckhardt retires as Cal coach

John Luckhardt, who resurrected California University's football program and made it a national power, has submitted his letter of resignation as head coach. Luckhardt, 67, spent 10 seasons as coach of the Vulcans and led them to three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II semifinals. He also resurrected the football program at Washington & Jefferson., taking the Presidents to the NCAA Division III finals. His career record is 225-70-2.
